There is an identity crisis growing among us so called “Christians”. I am talking about us who live in North America.
We live in a society that seeks to have our identity solidified through our work, status, social groups, and even mass media.
That is fine and peachy until everything of this world fades away…including your work, status, social groups, and the nonsensical crap that is thrown on us by the media.
Why do we mesh our lives with the banners of “work, beauty, status”… are we that desperate to feel like we matter?
Lets get down to the truth of the matter,
we are all wretched sinners undeserving of any status or glory.
God Himself, the Almighty ruler of Heaven and Earth, knows how wretched we are, He knows we will never be good enough, yet gives us the chance to live our lives for a greater purpose- to live our lives like Christ. He wants our identity.
All of it. If we say we in Christ… we are a new creation! The old ways of our lives should change… but I ask you this? Are you changed? Do you still live like the world? Do people see Jesus in you by how you live?
Is your identity being taken over by this world, or being formed into the likeness of Christ?
2 Corinthians 5:17- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
When we say we are rooted in Christ we need to keep it that way, that means that our actions, our words, our thoughts and everything we do needs to be aligned with Christ. Obviously it’s not going to be possible to be perfect 100% of the time, but the fact of the matter is we need to try. And if we really loved God and understood in our hearts what he did for us- we would want to do the best we can for him.
We shouldn’t find our worth through anything other than Christ- espicially since everything in this world is going to fade.
Sadly even many of us christians don’t find our worth in Christ, and I see it over and over again. Teenage girls form their identiy around being ‘beautiful’ and wind up seeking their identity through men who pay them attention for the wrong reasons. One person who has loved you all a long, and who has called you beloved, His Bride, His joy ….is the One that you keep pushing out of your life when you make Christ the last thing on your list. EVERYONE in this life will fail us, we all sin and fall short of the glory of God so why put ourselves in their hands?
The one peson who agreed to die for your sake- we often neglect; Just like the day He hung on that cross. Jesus cried out to His father, "My God, My God why have you forsaken me?" because he felt so alone... lets decide to honor him! Not reject him by the way we live our lives. My friends, Think about it: When we are identified with something, we conform to it’s ways, likewise we need to conform our ways to the ways of Christ. I challenge you to live like Christ asks us to. We need to pick up our cross and follow him daily. We all have different 'crosses' we have to battle- we are born into sin and we need to make the choice to either live for the moment or live for Christ.
